Sub-folder for channel data in alternative formats

Post by Sebastian Rings »

The members of the German workgroup MDVFS at their last meeting in November asked for an additional sub-folder for channel data in alternative formats (e.g. *.DAT, *.ISO). We (i.e. the ISO-MME task-force) discussed this item. In general we would like to fulfil this request but we are not sure about the name of this new folder. Therefore, we invite you to propose names and to quote for (statements on your quote are appreciated).
Please consider, that the name of the folder shall express its contents and that the contents depends on which type of data you like to put in (perhaps you like to put in more or other data than channel data).

Here are some proposals:
- Export (as proposed by MDVFS members)
- Miscellaneous
- Others
- Additional
- ChannelX (Channel eXtended)

The introduction of an EXPORT folder as described in the request would allow any format to be provided, thus contradicting the idea of standardization. It would be possible for example that a supplier provides channels only in a different format in the EXPORT folder, but doesn't provide the MME channels in the CHANNEL folder at all. Thus the possibility of circumventing the whole standardized ISO-MME format is given.
If this folder needs to be introduced there should at least be the minimal restriction, that every object provided there must also be provided in the according MME folder and format. Otherwise the creation of the EXPORT folder should be denied.
