We do a lot of aircraft seat testing here in our HyGe lab. To date, we have managed with the existing zone model: a common configuration is to have two rows of three seats on test, with 6 dummies, so we use Zones 1,2,3 for the front row and 4,5,6 for the second row. However, we have some tests planned with two rows of four seats, all occupied. This means that our vehicle zone model will not have enough seating positions in one row to allow four dummies sat side by side.
What I propose is to introduce the letters A-Z as valid for ISO code position 2. The exact position of the seats could be agreed between transferring partes, but one thought would be to label one row of seats as they would be in an aircraft and the next row L-V:
So, for our double row quad seat, we might use D-E-F-G for row 1 and P-Q-R-S for row 2.
This has other applications: coach and rail seat tests, where there are multiple rows and sparse location of dummies, which again we do here at MIRA.
